A Typical Day
Weekday:
We have many parents ask us about what a typical day at Fieldstone is like. We would claim that we don’t have very many “typical” days, but here is the schedule for our weekdays!
9:00-12:00 p.m. Morning classes. Prior to this time the students have had breakfast, showered, and prepared for their day. Our decision to start at 9 a.m. is driven by both industry research and our own experience. We believe our success with morning classes supports our decision! 12:00-12:30 p.m. Lunch time. 12:30-3:30 p.m. Afternoon classes. 3:30-5:00 p.m. First Elective Block. Students will participate in any of our extracurricular activities. If a student needs extra help, an elective block may also be used as a private tutoring session or to meet with personal advisors. 5:00-6:30 p.m. Second Elective Block. Depending on the student’s choice, the two Elective Blocks may be used for one activity. 6:30-7:00 p.m. Dinner 7:00-7:30 p.m. Reading/study hall. During this time students may catch up on homework or they will have time to read. We find that most students who come to us with academic issues do not have good reading skills. We work on making reading fun and productive.
7:30-8:00 p.m. Classrooms and Dining area cleanup through assigned chores. 8:00-9:00 p.m. Free time. We believe that a proper amount of leisure time prepares our students for the next day and allows them to enjoy their time with us. 9:00-10:00 p.m. Students have returned to their residences by 9, lights out by 10. They have a responsibility to keep their living spaces clean and tidy. Weekends/Exceptions
Weekends provide much of our students' free time. They will continue to work in their chosen Elective activities and will likely spend a lot of time on the ranch. This is also an opportunity for students to catch up on homework if they need to and to read. There is also a pizza/movie party on Friday nights. Those without disciplinary restrictions are allowed to attend. This is an occasion when we often invite high school students from the community to visit the campus and socialize with our students. We have seen that some interaction with other students and especially member of the opposite sex is greatly beneficial and helps to keep our students from "burning out." A special DVD player is used to minimize negative images in our movies.
